How we work

Our methodology

The work is older than us. We've borrowed carefully from traditions that already knew how to sit with what hurts.

Trauma-informed

We assume nothing about your history, we never push past what your body can hold, and we treat dissociation as a wise protector, not a problem to solve.

Somatic-led

Talk is the second move. The first is noticing what your body is already telling you. Practice precedes insight.

Relational

The change happens in the relationship. Between you and your coach, between you and the circle, between you and the parts of yourself you've exiled.

Plain-spoken

No jargon. No spiritual bypass. No therapy-speak. If we can't say it in the kitchen with friends, we don't say it here.

What a session actually looks like

Most men arrive expecting to be asked to explain themselves. That isn't where we start. We start with the present tense: how you slept, what your chest is doing while you talk, what happened in the car on the way here. The history matters, but it lands better once your nervous system has worked out that this room isn't another place to perform in.

From there the shape is usually the same. We slow down. We find the sentence you've been circling for weeks and say it out loud, properly, once. We notice what happens in your body when you do. Then we work out what you're going to do differently between now and the next time we speak. Something small and concrete, not a life plan. Change in this work is cumulative, not dramatic.

Sessions run for an hour, weekly or fortnightly. Some men want twelve weeks of structure; others want an open-ended place to keep thinking out loud. Both are legitimate. What doesn't work is turning up only in crisis, so we'll agree a rhythm early and hold you to it gently.

What we don't do

This is coaching, not therapy, and the difference is real. We don't diagnose, we don't treat mental illness, and we don't work with the acute end of trauma on our own. If what surfaces needs clinical care, we'll say so plainly and help you find it rather than quietly holding something we're not qualified to hold. Plenty of the men we work with are in therapy at the same time; the two sit alongside each other well.

We also don't do the version of men's work that trades one performance for another, no shouting, no forced catharsis, no borrowed mythology you have to pretend to believe in. If a practice doesn't make sense to you, we won't ask you to do it on faith.

Consent, pace and safety

You set the pace. Nothing is asked of you that you haven't agreed to, and stopping is always an available answer, including mid-sentence. Confidentiality is total, with the ordinary safeguarding exceptions around risk to you or to someone else, and those exceptions are explained before you start rather than buried in small print.

Lineage

Where the work comes from. We name our teachers because nothing here is ours alone.
