Reflection · 4 minutes
What's really driving your decisions?
Most decisions get made twice. Once consciously and once underneath. This is a look at the underneath.
Answer for the part of you that drives most days, not the version you'd present in an interview.
Reflect honestly
A lot of what I do is to stop something bad happening.

What this reflection looks at
Explore the motivations operating quietly below the surface of your choices. There are 8 statements, and it takes most men about 4 minutes. Nothing is scored against anyone else, and nothing here is a diagnosis. It's a way of putting language to patterns you've probably been carrying without naming.
- Fear
When it's light: Fear isn't running the show.
When it's heavy: Fear is a brilliant short-term motivator and a brutal long-term boss.
- Shame
When it's light: Shame isn't your fuel.
When it's heavy: Shame keeps a man productive and exhausted in the same breath.
- Anger
When it's light: Anger comes and goes cleanly.
When it's heavy: Anger is usually unmet grief or unmet need wearing a louder coat.
- Approval
When it's light: You move from your own sense of yes.
When it's heavy: Living for the gaze of others is a form of borrowed identity.
- Responsibility
When it's light: You carry your share.
When it's heavy: Hyper-responsibility was probably useful young. It tends to age into burnout.
- Purpose
When it's light: Your why is alive.
When it's heavy: When purpose drives, energy renews itself.
- Connection
When it's light: People feed your motivation.
When it's heavy: Doing it for someone you love isn't lesser. It's deeply human.
- Growth
When it's light: You move toward becoming.
When it's heavy: Growth-driven men keep walking even when no one is watching.
Questions worth sitting with
You'll be offered these again at the end, alongside your results. Some men find it useful to read them first, slowly, before answering anything.
- Which of these drivers tells you the most about why you're tired?
- Which one would you like to put in the driver's seat instead?
- What's the smallest decision this week you could make from that quieter driver?
How to use what comes back
Your results are a snapshot of one honest hour, not a verdict on who you are. Patterns shift as your life shifts.
This is a self-reflection tool, not a clinical assessment, and it doesn't replace medical, psychological or legal support. If what surfaces feels heavier than you expected, that's not a failure of the reflection. It's usually the most useful thing it could have done. Take it to someone: a coach, a therapist, your GP, or a man you trust. If you're in crisis in the UK, Samaritans are on 116 123, free, any hour of the night.
