For fathers in Kent
Going through family court as a father is one of the hardest, loneliest stretches of life a man can face. This is a quiet hub of the practical support, Mackenzie Friend work and trauma-informed coaching MendCoaching offers across Kent for fathers in the middle of it. Not legal advice. Not legal representation.
The reality
Most fathers I work with arrive late. Months or years into a case, often after a solicitor relationship has ended badly or run out of money, often after sleep has gone, contact has been reduced, and the inside of their own head has become a hard place to live. The court process is slow, formal and largely indifferent to what it's costing you to keep showing up.
The work here is not about pretending that's easy. It's about giving you a calmer, more organised, more steady version of yourself to walk into hearings and meetings with, so the version the court sees is closer to the father you actually are.
What's available
The emotional weight of family court. Grief, anger, fear, shame, sleeplessness. Is its own piece of work. Coaching alongside the practical side keeps you functional while the case rolls on.
See coaching options →Years of messages, school reports, emails and contact records turned into an organised, indexed bundle the court can actually use, and that you can find your way around under pressure.
A lower-cost route for fathers in real financial difficulty who would otherwise be facing all of this completely alone. Limited places, allocated by conversation.
Preparing for hearings
The hearing itself is rarely the hardest part. The weeks before are. Good preparation means knowing exactly what the court is being asked to decide that day, what evidence sits where in the bundle, what to say and what to leave out, and how to walk in steady rather than dysregulated.
For most fathers, two or three focused preparation sessions before a contested hearing make a bigger difference than any amount of last-minute reading. We work through your position statement in your own words, rehearse cross-examination, and plan the day itself in advance so the building, the timings and the order of speakers are familiar before you arrive.
Co-parenting and aftermath
Family court is a chapter, not the whole story. The harder, longer work for most fathers is what comes after: rebuilding contact, repairing the relationship with your children, managing communication with an ex-partner without falling into the same arguments, and slowly putting your own life back together.
Coaching here is steady and unspectacular. It's about the conversations you have with your children when you collect them, the way you handle the messages that arrive on a Sunday night, and the version of fatherhood you want to actually become from this point on.
Across Kent
I'm based in East Kent and work with fathers across the wider county. Most preparation happens online; in-person sessions and hearing attendance are available where they make a real difference.
